ProCyD – A Modular Higher Education System in Data Protection and Cybersecurity for Supporting the Digital Transformation in Mozambique and South Africa is an Erasmus+ CBHE (Capacity Building in Higher Education) project launched in 2023, involving Higher Education Institutions, Government Agencies, and Civil Society Entities from South Africa, Germany, Czechia, Italy, and Mozambique. The project aims at introducing or strengthening data protection and cybersecurity in higher education to support the digital transformation in Mozambique and South Africa.
What are we doing?
The project aims at introducing or strengthening data protection and cybersecurity in higher education to support the digital transformation in Mozambique and South Africa, through:
Curriculum development
To ensure the integration of data protection and cybersecurity into higher education in partner countries, the project will support the development and introduction of teaching programs at various levels, including general basic qualification and new bachelor's and master's programs.
Pilot Master’s Program
A total of 14 members of the participating Mozambican universities get the possibility to participate in a pilot master’s program with semesters abroad at Masaryk University in the Czech Republic to create an initial pool of specialists and lecturers, ensuring the sustainability of project results.
Training
An online summer school will be provided by Rhodes University. The summer school will introduce digital transformation in the context of Education for Sustainable Development. The course also comprises a training of lecturers to enable them to develop, facilitate, implement, monitor, and evaluate an online course in their own context.

Workshop about Online Materials
A workshop about the development and use of online materials was held in Rome at USGM from 24 to 26 September. The workshop also included a visit to Marconi studios where an example lecture given by Ambrósio Vumo was recorded.
Kick-off meeting
We got off to a successful start with the Kick-Off Meeting at UP (Pedagogical University) in Maputo. The meeting took place from April 3 to 4, 2024 in hybrid form (part face-to-face in Maputo, part online). In addition, the selection of students for the pilot master’s program at Masaryk University took place in parallel.
Selection of students for master’s program
The selection of students for the pilot master’s program at Masaryk University in Brno took place in conjunction with the kickoff meeting on April 3-4, 2024. Most of the students were able to attend in person; some students participated remotely from their home universities.The selection consisted of a theory test, a practical test, and individual interviews.
